Remember how in my last post, I said your umbilical cord fell off on the 28th and your first official bath was shortly thereafter? Well, "what had happened was"...your Daddy was changing your diaper the night of the 28th/morning of the 29th and it was barely hanging on! And it TOTALLY freaked your Daddy out. The next morning for diaper change...no more umbilical cord! I actually had to look for it because it had worked its way around to your back and was stuck in your onesie...kind of gross but hey, at least I found it!
So after a long day at your two-week check-up and seeing Mimi off, I decided to give you your first official bath that night. I just knew you would love it. And you kind of did ~ as long as you were covered and warm that is!
I have to say, you smelled absolutely wonderful when this was all over ~ I love that clean baby smell! I mean I love your spit up smell too, but clean baby smell is a little more pleasant :)
And of course, a special shout out to my big helper! Sophia is such an amazing big sister ~ she absolutely adores her "Yiyah Bear". And based on the smiles you give her now, I'd say the feeling is mutual!
What a whirlwind of a month! Going from one kid to two kids was/is quite a juggling act, and sometimes I can keep all the balls in the air and sometimes I can't. But, that's life! And as chaotic as it may have been that first month, it was absolutely worth it. I watch the love between my girls even at this young of an age and can instantly see their future as best friends. Long night chats. Full blown fights. Sweet hugs and precious prayers. So yes, the juggling act is 100% without a doubt, absolutely, totally worth it! Lilah Elizabeth, you have changed our world. There is more joy and love in this home than there ever was before. There are the precious sounds of baby cries and coos ~ a sound I waited on for 40 weeks and 1 day ~ sounds I love more than words can express. You are the light of our lives and your Daddy and I are blessed beyond measure to be your parents. It still amazes me how something so very small can so instantly capture your whole heart. I guess the Lord knew what He was doing when He made a mother's heart! Funny, already it's hard for me to remember life pre-you. But I can tell you one thing, I loved my life then. But I love it more now simply because you're in it. My cup overfloweth sweet angel...my cup overfloweth. At one month ~
Weighed 7 lbs 12 ozs at your two-week appointment and approximately 8 lbs 4 ozs at one-month. I say "approximately" because I was using the tried and true "weigh yourself, then yourself plus baby, then take the difference" method.
Still wear newborn clothes and diapers
Eat about 3 ozs per feeding. Again, since I'm breastfeeding, this is an estimate based on what I am able to pump. Either way, you seem perfectly satisfied with whatever you are getting so that's all that matters to me! Happy baby = happy Mommy!
You have officially begun showing signs of acid reflux :( NOOOOOOOO!
Still wake up twice a night to eat. Usually around 12 and 3.
Are a great night-time sleeper, though there have been plenty of nights when you have slept either next to me or on my chest...at least you are sleeping. Mommy doesn't sleep very well in these situations.
Make the cutest mouse sounds ever!
Lost your umbilical cord on June 28th and had your first real bath shortly thereafter!
Enjoy baths ~ so long as I keep a warm towel covering you. Pics of that coming soon :)
Still love being swaddled, held, patted and rocked
Have an uncanny ability to kick your legs out of your swaddle
Aren't great at keeping your paci. Why must you spit it out when you want it so badly. Maybe you will wean from it sooner than Soph. Oh, but how much does Mommy loves paris? Yes, I admit it ~ I'm a paci fan!
Think ceiling fans are super cool, but what baby doesn't?!
Unlike your sister at this age, still LOVE the bouncy. By this time, Soph had decided the bouncy seat was completely sub-par to the swing.
Rarely find your playmate entertaining and more often than not get annoyed by tummy time. Besides, I think you wonder why on Earth I wouldn't want to be holding you!
Are super, super gassy! One day you will despise me for saying this on the Internet (assuming the Internet is not ancient technology by then), but it has to be documented. You could seriously make a grown man proud!
Have celebrated your first official holiday ~ July 4th.
Have been to swim lessons with your sister once...mind you, you were completely covered and Mommy or Mimi were guarding you like a hawk from any curious observers. But Daddy was running a little late so in order to get Sissy there on time, this was the only solution.
Love being in the Moby Wrap. It took Mommy way more getting used to than it did you!
Have acquired the following nicknames: Mouse, Mousy Mouse, Peanut Butter, Butterball, Princess, Lilah Bear, Bear, and the infamous "Yiyah" and "Yiyah Bear" by one adorable big sister :)
And finally...have the most beautiful baby blues, melt my heart every time I look at you, have added more joy to our family than I could have ever hoped, and showed me it truly is possible for your heart to grow to include more love than I ever thought possible.
We love you Mousy Mouse!
From 0-4 ~ my how time flies...
Precious "Just Born" Baby
One Week...
And looking SOOOO much like her sister!
Two Weeks...
Already changing so much :(
Three Weeks...
Soph was still a little timid about holding her at this point! Is it obvious? :)
One Month... LOVE how adorable she is with her gigantic flower!
Keep growing big and strong sweet girl! Just maybe find a way to slow time down in the process...
Since Lilah was scheduled to be born so close to Father's Day, and I was a wee bit preoccupied with all that goes into having a baby, I had Kevin's present shipped to the house a little last minute. And of course it was scheduled to arrive the day she actually made her appearance in this world...so guess what?! It wasn't a surprise after all. Especially since I didn't think to mark the item as a "gift" when I ordered it from Amazon. Ugh ~ live and learn! At least he liked it :)
Besides, I don't think even super nice outdoor speakers can beat the gift of our sweet girls ~ they are pretty special you know! And they have a pretty amazing Daddy on top of that :)
...also known as figuring out life with two kids on little to no sleep!
But what a great two weeks it was ~ it seems like just yesterday this was happening and yet, she is already two months old. Seriously, that is one of the questions I will never be able to answer. Why when you are waiting on them to arrive does time seem to stand still in so many ways? And yet, once they do, time flies so fast you don't want to blink for fear of missing something.
So since this is round two, and time certainly isn't slowing down, I'm trying to remember to cherish each and every moment. Even the frustrating ones. Because often it is those times that I learn more about myself and my children than I would have otherwise. And it is those very times that I have to lean on the Lord for patience, kindness and understanding. And yes, it is those times when even knowing those things, sometimes I just allow myself to cry right along with them! Because sometimes that's just what you need ~ and somehow my two year old always turns those joint crying episodes into the silliest and most memorable moments of my day :)
And while I didn't capture those particular moments on camera (and as the sole author of this blog, would never post them if someone had!), here are some precious memories I wanted to share with the girls' adoring public! Because let's face it, that's all you're here for anyway ;)
Stretch it out!
Lilah and Mema (great-grandmother)
PopPop put her big sister gift together and it didn't take her long to get the hang of it!
The embodiment of "sleeping like a baby"!
Bright-eyed and bouncing it out!
Her first sponge bath!
Not her favorite moment of the first two weeks :/
Her and "paci" ~ dear friends they are!
Sporting her adorable outfit from Whit!
Mommy and her girls :)
A little sisterly playtime
Meeting Uncle Eric
Already a Mimi's baby :)
And finally, one that just melts my heart.
Peacefully perfect!
To the moon and back ~ Momma loves you to the moon and back sweet girl.
On June 16, 2012, we brought our sweet Lilah Bear home and it just seemed so perfect, just as it should have been, just as the Lord had planned. Another sweet angel added to our lives to bring us joy, laughter and love for a lifetime!
First car ride ~ sooooo tiny!
I think it's safe to say she enjoys being a big sister :)
First time in her swing (aka entertainment so Mommy can eat)!
Lilah bought Soph a "great big sister" present!
Perhaps this could be referred to as bribery ~ but it's sweet bribery :)
And a few pics from our favorite, very talented "Untle" Joe!
How very blessed I am to have such sweet, precious angels to call my daughters. I certainly hope one day they will feel even half as blessed to call me their Mom.
I love you girls. To the moon and back a million times over ~ always and forever!
